On the heels of the grueling Tour de France, the men’s Vuelta a España road race begins Saturday in Malaga, Spain, with the individual time trial. La Vuelta is the third and final Grand Tour race of the season.
The race consists of 21 stages, including five mountain stages and six hilly stages along with six flat stages and two time trial days. La Vuelta covers 3,254 kilometers.
It finishes in Madrid on Sept. 16.
Chris Froome of Great Britain led Team Sky to the 2017 championship but is not competing this year.

At least five U.S. cyclists are competing, including 2016 Olympian Brent Bookwalter and Joey Rosskopf on the BMC Racing Team. Ian Boswell is racing with Team Katusha – Alpecin, Kiel Reijnen is part of the Trek – Segafredo team and Ben King is with Dimension Data.
After Saturday’s time trial, the second stage of the race goes 163 kilometers from Marbella to Caminito del Rey.
