The following boys golf events kicked off the fall high school sports season for Journal-area teams this past week:


Saturday, Aug. 11


Leyden Invite: Rolling Meadows (313), Fenton (330), Leyden (330), West Chicago (335), Immaculate Conception (343), Maine West (365), Niles North (373), Maine East (426)

Roundup: Rolling Meadows won the Leyden Invite with a 313 score to easily top the other seven schools competing. Chris Cho shot a 71 to earn first place medalist honors for the Mustangs. Luke Duffer (74, 3rd place medalist), Charlie Behrens (83, 10th place medalist), Paul Richards (84), Sean Richards (84) and John Freiburger (88) rounded out the Mustangs golfers. Leyden’ Marco Diaz shot a 73 to place second.


Friday, Aug. 10


North vs. South Shootout: St. Viator competed at the annual North vs. South meet at Oak Ridge Country Club. The Lions were led by Nolan Doherty (73) and Michael Ruben (79).


Thursday, Aug. 9


Elk Grove Invite (at Fox Run Golf Links, par 70): Lake Forest (263), York (266), Hersey (271), Prospect (276), Rolling Meadows (309), Buffalo Grove (311), Niles West (311), Elk Grove (323), Glenbard East (351), Wheeling (358)

Roundup: The tournament featured varsity golfers teamed with JV golfers. The meet opened the season for seven Journal-area teams. Hersey was led by Henry Quinn/Johnny Murray (64), T. Irwin/M. Sheldon (68), Derek Cho/D. Zagorski (69), S. Heidkamp/M. Fanella (70), Ryan Kreie/J. Mayo (77) and J. Perkins/C. Buckley (82). Prospect wasn’t far behind with some great showings. Charlie Busch/Nathan Chung (66) led the way with help from Jack Knott/Danny McKenna (69), Dylan Norton/Jack Doyle (70), Sam Ergastolo/Cole Lannert (71), V. Minelli/C. Votzmeyer (72) and John Cantieri/Kevin Cantieri (73). Rolling Meadows was led by Chris Cho/M. Lennon (67). Niles West was led by Dori Lee/R. Allen (72) and Niles West was led by E. Kim/A. Benitez (75). Elk Grove was led by R. Rathman/D. Carlson (74) and Wheeling was led by Jared Moser/J. Kasper (82).

Niles Notre Dame 335, Montini Catholic 354: Notre Dame won their opening meet with help from Lucas Geiger (81), Nick Trekas (42-42 — 84), Nick Meyer (44-41 — 85) and Nick Boehmer (42-48 — 90). Trent Piotrowski also shot a 43 on the back nine for the Dons.

Leyden 161, Elmwood Park 234: Leyden easily won their opener as Jared Hankins shot an even-par 35 to earn medalist honors at Indian Boundary.

St. Ignatius Invite: Hinsdale Central won the invite shooting 298, while Loyola Academy finished second with a 309 score. Patrick Adler, a sophomore, shot a 73 to lead the way for Loyola. The Ramblers also had contributions from Christopher Lee (75), Peter Radler (79) and Casey Kenny (82). Also in the lineup, but not counting toward the team score for Loyola, were Sam Maylee (83) and Mac Purcell (84).
