TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 24 Texas Women’s golf team continued to rewrite the program’s record book on Friday during the opening round of the Mountain View Collegiate. Texas fired a 16-under 272 as a team, setting a school record for an 18-hole score to par (-16) and tying the program’s lowest 18-hole score overall (272). It is also the second-lowest round by a team in Mountain View Collegiate history (268, Iowa State – 2019 3rd Round).

Freshman Ashley Park was the leader of Texas’ record round, firing a 6-under 66 – the best round of her young collegiate career to date – and is the Mountain View Collegiate solo leader through 18 holes. Park posted a clean scorecard on Friday, registering six birdies and no bogies during her first trip around The Preserve Golf Club. She made three birdies on the front nine and three more on the back. Park’s 66 is the fourth-lowest round in tournament history.

Right on her tail is a familiar face to Longhorn fans, Agathe Laisne, who is tied for second at 5-under par. Laisne, a French international, started her round with a blaze, posting four-straight birdies on holes 2-5 after an opening par at the first. She recorded only one bogey – a five on the seventh hole – before posting two more birdies on the back nine. Laisne’s 67 is her second-best round of the season, following a third-round 66 in her last outing at the Wildcat Invitational earlier this month.

Three-time All-American Kaitlyn Papp was as steady as ever in her opening 18 holes, firing a 3-under 69 that was anchored by five birdies to only two bogies. Papp made two birdies and both of her bogies on the opening nine, before recording three birdies and six pars on the inward nine. It was the fourth time in eight rounds that she has finished par-or-better this season, and all eight of her rounds for the Longhorns have counted in the team score. Papp is currently tied for eighth after the opening round.

Sara Kouskova was the fourth Longhorn to contribute to the team score on Friday, shooting a 2-under 70 thanks to four birdies on the back nine. Kouskova is tied for 14th after the opening round. She is coming off earning medalist honors for the first time in her collegiate career at the Wildcat Invitational last week. There, Kouskova fired a 10-under 206 to win by three shots.

The Longhorns continue their pursuit of a second-straight team title in Arizona on Saturday with the second round of the Mountain View Collegiate. Live results will be available throughout the day on Golfstat.com.
