SWIMMER TO WATCH >> After nursing a shoulder injury for a good portion of the season last year, Ayisha Afrik is healthy and looking for a strong finish to her senior year.

COACH’S OUTLOOK >> “Our team is going to have great depth again this season. We lost some great swimmers to graduation a year ago. We look forward to working hard and trying to fill those spots. The OK Red looks very competitive with three or four teams eyeing the top spot, should make for a very exciting season.” — Bowyer

SWIMMER TO WATCH >> Meeuwsen has been one of the top sprinters in the state the past three years.

COACH’S OUTLOOK >> “We actually swam three freshmen on relays at state last year. That is an exciting position to be in as a team.” — VanSoest

KEY RETURNERS >> Sage Gettings (jr., sprints/butterfly), Anika Wehrmeyer (sr., backstroke), Evelyn VanderVelde (sr. breaststroke/IM), Abby Mendels (jr., sprints), Emma Henninges (sr., distance freestyle)

SWIMMER TO WATCH >> Greta VanZetten (freshman), very versatile, close to state cuts in a few events and Nina Veldt (freshman), hard worker that will be able to swim all events, Lepard said.

COACH’S OUTLOOK >> “We have a good group of juniors and seniors that have the experience and we have gotten a bunch of freshman that will help fill in our line-up. Overall, looking to improve in the OK Green conference.” — Lepard

 

Holland Christian

LAST YEAR >> Third in OK Green, 6th at D3 state

SWIMMER TO WATCH >> After finishing her freshmen year strong, Zoe DeKievit is entering her sophomore year poised for even greater success.

SWIMMER TO WATCH >> Jenna Kloosterman – She is on the edge of breaking through and has been putting solid effort into her practicing. She was a big player on our relays last year at state and this year will make her mark in her individual events as well, Talsma said.

COACH’S OUTLOOK >> “We return a great group of kids that work very well together. We have some work to do to fill some gaps in our lineup but we should end the season with a very solid team. We look forward to making our mark at the OK Green meet and the state meet.” — Talsma
