Cullowhee, N.C. – As the Catamount volleyball continues its first week of practice, and with the season-opening Catamount Classic beginning in two weeks, is building on its popular 2018 “Get to Know” series which began with Catamount football earlier this summer to continue the series to include Catamount women’s volleyball.

Western Carolina opened preseason camp on Tuesday with team picture day and held its first day of practice on Wednesday. The Catamounts open the 2018 season on Aug. 24 as they host Robert Morris.

In the first of the Catamount volleyball series, #CatamountCountry is being introduced to Emma Tynan, a senior defensive specialist/libero from Healdsburg, Calif.

Tynan: Cookies & Cream

Tynan: I’m not a huge fan of zoos

Tynan: Gotta be the Raiders!

What is your favorite off-season activity?

Tynan: Attending festivals or traveling

What has been your favorite class to take at WCU?

Tynan: Social Movements

What is something you always love doing, even when you are tired or rushed? Why?

Tynan: Taking the time to stretch at the end of every day!

Who is the most important person in your life?

Tynan: Both of my parents.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Tynan: A doctor

What position do you play – and what is the one key thing to know about playing that position?

Tynan: A defensive specialist- one key thing about playing that position is to expect anything!

Tynan: To make it to the conference championship

Tynan: The family environment that our student-athletes share!

Tynan: Balancing school and our travel schedule during the season.

What is your favorite thing about home games in Cullowhee?

Tynan: When my family gets to come and watch the games.

What has been your favorite athletics moment at Western Carolina?

Tynan: Beating ETSU at home last year.

What will you miss MOST about being a Catamount?

Tynan: I will miss my teammates the most!

What does your athletic scholarship mean to you?

Tynan: It means proving that I have put in a lot of work and effort, and in addition, it’s a way to thank my parents for the sacrifices they have made for me along the way.

What message would you like to send to the Catamount Nation?

Tynan: I would like to share that I am extremely excited about what this team will be able to accomplish this season and that we need all of Catamount Nation’s support.
