The Mountain Home Junior Lady Bombers finished a three-match sweep of Jonesboro MacArthur with a 25-21, 25-15 victory over the Lady Cyclones in 5A-East Conference volleyball action Monday night at The Hangar.

Mountain Home also rolled to victory in the seventh-grade match and put together a strong rally to win the junior high junior varsity match.

Coach Shelby Upshaw’s Junior Lady Bombers are now 6-3 overall and 3-2 in league play after the victory.

MacArthur could not stop or block Emma Wilber, who led Mountain Home with a match-high 11 kills as well as three blocks.

Setter Carson Schmitz had 19 assists and recorded four aces and four digs as well for the Junior Lady Bombers. Lauren Wehmeyer also had a balanced night with seven digs and six kills.

The first set was back-and-forth with neither team building a lead of more than three points until Mountain Home turned a 20-20 tie into a 25-21 win with a late run.

Wilber killed for one point and blocked for another, but after a service error, Jonesboro was within 22-21. The Junior Lady Bombers went right back to Wilber, who smashed a kill, followed by a net violation and a hitting error by MacArthur to end the set.

The hosts took over the second set when they scored eight straight to turn an 8-5 lead into a 16-5 advantage. Schmitz served four consecutive aces during the run.

Libero Cate Jackson made 12 digs to lead the defense, while McKenzie Tolbert and Chloe Lydon added seven apiece.

Sydney Parker had three kills to lead MacArthur, which had only nine in the match. Libero Hadley Orr made seven digs to lead the Lady Cyclones.

The Junior Lady Bombers are back on the road Tuesday when they take on West Memphis West Junior High.

Mountain Home suffered a beating in the first set of the junior high junior varsity match before coming alive to take a pivotal second set and use the momentum to take the third as well.

The JV Junior Lady Bombers earned a 13-25, 27-25, 15-11 victory in the match and were led by 10 digs from Lily Hinson. Kylie Horne served five aces for Mountain Home.

Mountain Home trailed 12-7 at one point in the second set, but scored six straight for a 13-12 lead.

The teams were tied at 21-21, 22-22, 23-23, 24-24 and 25-25 before Mountain Home scored the last two, the set-winner coming on an ace by Jordan Massie. Andrea Green and Monica Chafin added three kills apiece for the hosts, who jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the third set.

The Seventh Grade Lady Bombers coasted to a 25-11, 25-7 victory over the Seventh Grade Lady Cyclones.
